Brief Description: CH5-04: Top Longeron Stiffeners
No work on plane yesterday...Mother's Day.
Today, I took the weights and clamps off the top longerons and started to sand the epoxy off the top and sides (especially where I will have to flox on doublers and stiffeners). There were a few areas where one of the strips of wood moved up a 1/16 or so. I was sanding those areas down so the stiffeners would lay flat.
Started cutting and fitting the 60" stiffeners to the curvuture of the longeron. There is no exact measurement for where you make these cuts, it's a bit of trial and error. You make the cuts 3/4" apart and 7/16" (.45 for those of you with a decimal tape measure) deep.
Still need to make a few more cuts and then start drilling small holes and putting brads in to hold the stiffeners in place. I haven't cut the doublers yet, so still need to do that. For the most part, the longerons go together much faster than the jigs.
