Brief Description: Email Vans re fitting roll bar

Move the hole inboard as much as possible by filing it oval and then drilling it full size. We are essentially bolting a steel reinforcement to the longeron here, but still, we'd like to leave it intact.

Hi Ken
Thanks for that suggestion, it worked well. Another question ...
We have back-drilled te four holes through the roll bar (Section 9-9 of instructions). After we back-drilled the #40 pilot holes in the roll bar, we notice that the hole is right against the longeron. We are concerned that we wil nick the longeron when we drill these holes to size for the AN3 and AN4 bolts. Is this a problem?
Cheers

Make the fuselage wider. 1/4 is only 1/8 per side. You can easily open the fuse this much with just your hands. Open it until it matches the roll bar, drill it and the steel bow will take care of the rest.

Hi
I am fitting the rollbar for a slider canopy and it needs to be narrowed by 1/4". I have tried to bend the bar by looping a rope around both ends and twisting the rope in the middle. The bar flexes in by more than 1.5", but it just springs back to its original position. What do you suggest?
Thanks
