Brief Description: Started on horizontal stabilator
Started working on the Horizontal Stabilator today. I made it to the end of page 4 and have the Spar Box ready to rivet. I think this is by far the longest section. All the nutplates really slowed me down. The good news is that I have my machine countersink routine and the rivet squeezer down pat. I'm getting very good at riveting.
I discovered that the control horns are pre-fabricated by Van's about 0.050" too wide for the spar box. I contacted them and they confirmed this by telling me that I should make shims and place them evenly on both sides of the spar box. So far, this is the only defect I've found in the kit; it's really a wonderful kit.
