Brief Description:  Cowling Installation

The top cowl was reinstalled and cleco'd in place. The bottom cowling was set in place and temporarily clamped in place. It is apparent the the two are not mating up exactly correct. It appears that the higher firewall has pushed the back of the top cowl down slightly. This may require some modifications to the back interface to make them match.

The lower flange at the firewall was trimmed to place the bottom cowl within about 1/4". This helped the misalignment some. Four clecos were installed to hold the bottom cowl in place. The top cowl was removed.

The bottom cowl was supported at the wing root with some pieces of ruler bondo'd to the wing. A piece of wood was bondo'd to the spar to support the front edge. The inside of the cowl was taped with duct tape for release. 5 ply BID tape was layed into the wing root overlapping onto the cowl by at least 1.5".

It appears that there will be a significant gap on the left wing root between the wing and the cowl. The cowl will need to be extended.
