This was the fourth and last day working on the toolbox, the alternatives mentioned in the previous log to install the bottom rivets could not be used since we didn’t get the correct tools. We did get a riveter with a bigger reach but it was not enough for the bottom rivets, although it worked for the corners, thing the riveter we previously used wasn’t able of. We were instructed to leave those holes as they were so we could continue working with the rest of the toolbox.
Some teams were having problems with the hinge because the instructions about the position of the eyelets were not clear for most of us, only the empennage team mastered this. NOTE: READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY, THE FIRST HALF OF THE HINGE THAT GOES WITH THE LID MUST HAVE THE EYELETS POINTING DOWN, THE SECOND HALF OF THE HINGE THAT GOES WITH THE BODY MUST HAVE THE EYELETS POINTING OUTWARDS.
My team ran into another problem with the hinge installation, we mistakenly dimpled to the opposite side which we did not notice until we almost finished riveting, this cost us a lot of time because once we realized this we had to remove a total of 11 rivets and re-dimple the hinge with the risk of fracturing the aluminum, luckily this didn’t happen and we completed the toolbox assembly.
