Brief Description:  Rivet Rudder Trailing Edge

Reveted trailing edge after allowing the tank sealant to cure for 5 days. I followed Van's instructions and it turned out great. Maybe 1/32" out over the total length. The AN426-3-3.5 rivets did a good job of filling the shop head side dimples. Almost looks like manufactured heads. I found that the straightness did move around a little as I riveted. It seems that riveting tends to move the trailing edge toward a convex shape when looked at from the side you are riveting. My guess is that you are stretching the skin a little on the gun side as you rivet. This bows the ends away from the gun side. Frequent movement from side to side while riveting kept things straight. I finished up by installing the last two rivets (each side) on the top and bottom spars. Bottom went fine and required one MS31BS rivet on one side of the bottom rib. I just couldn't get that last one in with a standard 426 rivet. When doing the top rib, I let the rivet gun slip a little and produced a small ding where it slid off the rivet head. Crap! I'll straighten it as well as I can tomorrow, and touch up with filler before I paint.
