Brief Description:  Trim Tab Construction - w/ mini ribs

I decided I din't like the looks of the bent tab approach to complete the trim tab per plans. Many that I've seen in the field were not truly flat. Also, many folks seemed to take two or three skins to get satisfactory bends. The following is the process I used over the next couple days to complete the trim tab with mini-ribs. There is no gaurantee this will work for you. As usual, your mileage may vary.:1. Cut the factory tabs off even with the non-tab edges of the trim tab skin. 2. Drill the E-717 and E-718 horns to the bottom of the skin.3. Add a third 3/32" hole 1/4" inboard from the bottom skin edge for the E-718 trim tab. Drill through E-718 and the skin.4. Drilled spar to lower and upper skins. Dimple all skin to spar holes. 5. Countersink top holes in spar per plans, and also countersink the bottom left and right end holes in the spar. Dimple the rest of the holes in the bottom edge of the spar.6. Dimple the forward two holesin E-718 and forward three holes in E-717 leaving the "skin edge" holes in E-717 and E-718 undimpled. Dimple corresponding holes in skin. 7. Back rivet the bottom edge of the spar to the skin leaving the last hole open each end. 8. Bend trailing edge to fit the spar per plans. 9. Cleaco the top skin to the spar and make mini-ribs to fit inboard and outboard ends of trim tab. Drill TOP edge of both ribs to skin. I used 5 holes in the inner rib, and three holes for the outer rib. Dimple top skin and rib holes. Cleco ribs to top skins. Do Not Drill bottom rib holes at this time. They will be drilled later after ensuring proper alignment with elevator per plans instructions. 10. Space out and drill bottom skin holes for outer mini-rib. I used three including the existing spar end hole. 11. Add one hole in bottom skin only for inner rib. This results in four somewhat unevenly spaced holes in the bottom inner rib.
