Earlier in the week I had drilled (unlogged) the corner holes for the cutout and roughly cut out the opening only to find I had shortened the distance fore/aft and it didn't fit the doubler. So I carefully drilled new corner holes and smoothed the opening. Then I clamped the doubler in place and drilled it to the skin. Removing the doubler, I used the opening as a template to mark some scrap sheet and cut out a cover plate. I trimmed it to fit the opening (more trimming later to allow for paint), and marked and drilled holes around the perimeter. The perimeter holes are a bit rough but will be drilled out for screws and nutplates later.
