Brief Description:  Prepare left top wing skins for riveting

Removed the left top wing skins, wing walk doublers, and J-stringers from the wing. Removed the plastic from the doublers and deburred them before returning them to the wing structure. I don't think I've mentioned removing the plastic before this, so it's worth taking a few moments to talk about as it's time consuming. In the winter, I put parts near the heater to make the plastic easier to remove. In good weather, I place the parts out in the sun, which quickly heats it enough. Even with heating, though, the plastic still takes time and effort to peel off. On dimpled skins, I remove the plastic from the back but leave the front on to protect the part from the male die; the dimples produced are not affected by the thin plastic but leaving plastic on the back as well allows the female die to cut 'washers' out of the material, making it harder to remove. On the inboard skin, the plastic over the wing walk had been removed for countersinking, which resulted in some minor scratching when the skin was dimpled, but nothing too deep.

After the doublers, I filed down the corner of the inboard skin at the leading edge where it is overlapped by the outboard skin. This was done by putting electrical tape diagonally (2" to 2") and using that to prevent the file from scoring the back side of the skin. Then I filed carefully until the point was very thin and the file was just touching the tape. I'll repeat this process on the underside of the outboard skin, leaving the visible surfaces untouched.

Next I dimpled all but the wing walk area and the trailing edge of the inboard skin. When done, I remasked the filing I did earlier and primed the corner. While the primer was drying, I dimpled the inboard J-stiffener. Then I clecoed the stiffener and skin back in place on the wing. Since I was out of time for the day, I left off there.
