Brief Description:  Firewall Plug FP-2

I installed the left side firewall plug by putting the bulkhead piece in the hole I previously punched and installing machine screws and nuts to hold it in place. In Image 1 you can see the other plug attached and both backshells, showing why I had to move it above the engine mount so the backshells wouldn't interfere. Then I began crimping the pins for the harness. The extra wire was labeled but I wouldn't have room for that in the backshell so I used color marking, noting the colors in the diagram from Aerotronics. I won't install the pins yet, as the panel still has to come back out so I can rivet the deck skin.

Next I began to design the mounts for the LSE ignition boxes. I will put the boxes on the left and right panel ribs and so I am making sliding rails that will attach to the ribs. The .060 piece is closest to the rib and gets drilled for a nutplate and #40 holes at either end of the LSE rail. The nutplate is at the lower hole on the LSE rail. The other two pieces are the same thickness as the LSE rail. When riveted together, the LSE rail will be captured in a sandwich and slide upward until it hits a stop pin made by putting a rivet in the upper #40 hole. The lower #40 hole acts as a journal; when you no longer see rail behind it, it is in position. Then a screw can be inserted to capture the LSE box. There will be a similar rail on the other side and more pictures to show how it all works after tomorrow.

Rivet count: -48 (removing old LSE mounts) Total: 15829 - Plus 549 done at Van's
