I just had to give this a try. With a possible solution for the tach drive in place, the backup alternator retorqued, and all other aft engine work done, I was ready to hang the engine. The lord mounts for the IO-540 looked much simpler than the ones for the IO-360 ... so maybe I could do this by myself? I put the engine in place as much as I could (with the airframe on the lift, I was a little sideways from the mount. I got it close enough I could put the right top bolt in. Then a little push back and I could almost get the left top in. Just a bit of a lift and then a sideways twist and in it went! Now, with the top two in and snugged, I just couldn't quite get the bottom mounts on. Changing the lift height didn't work but changing the level did the trick and I was able to start the last two and then put the inner spacer, forward rubber, and nuts on. With all nuts torqued, it turned out that one washer was plenty, though I will check it again since the engine might come off while other FWF work is done.
Lastly, the garbage can of concrete that has been taking the place of engine weight was unstrapped and the lift lowered and released. The engine didn't fall down. That's a good sign, right?
