Brief Description:  Engine baffling with some problems

Finished the left rear baffle section, with the exception of riveting. I'm intending to power-coat my baffles after trimming for cowl fit, and before riveting. So far, everything from the kit has fit like a glove. I fit the two major pieces for the right rear and suddenly things are not so good. I had to trim a section from the rear part to make it flush with the bracket CB-1007B. Otherwise it was about 1/2" too far outboard. It's a little hard to see from the pictures, but it's about 1/2" too low (easy to see at the cylinder head, but also at the inboard end) and fitting around the oil relief valve also twists it back. Notice in Image 3 that the CB-1007B bracket looks to be about an inch too long; even if I trimmed to fit around the valve, it would still be long. Trying to put the baffle in front of the valve just makes it wrong the other way.

The advice has been given that if something doesn't seem to fit, it's probably something wrong with the fitting, not with the kit, but for the life of me I don't see what I'm doing wrong. Before I start chopping up the CB-1007 parts, I'm going to run it by the factory and the VAF forums. Still waiting for the mag cover parts, so I guess I'll have to find something else to fiddle with while I keep doing the slow condition inspection/ignition repair on the RV-6A.
