Brief Description:  Tensioned Stabilator Cables

Added weight to hold stabilator trailing edge down by tying a small rope around the neck of a 12 oz water bottle, then tying to the anti-servo tab horns. Tightened upper turnbuckle until Denise was able to move the stick aft and lift the stabilator at the same time. Tightened lower turnbuckle to remove slack out of the lower cable. Verified that stabilator trailing edge moves up when stick is moved aft and no interference. (step 4)

Seat ramp cover previously installed in KAI Section 33. (step 5)

Made a dowel rod 10" long to measure distance from top center of control stick to lower face of instrument panel. Secured control stick at 10" (measured with dowel rod) and secured 41" board to upper longerons with clamps to maintain 10" dimension. Iteratively adjusted turnbuckles until cables were properly tensioned (approximately 40 pounds on each cable). Denise did the dirty work of measuring cable tension aft of the baggage bulkhead. (step 6)

Removed clamps and board from control stick and weight from stabilator. Moved control stick forward and aft and checked control stop cushion. Noticed that there is plenty of cushion when the stick is moved full forward but none when moving the stick full aft. Adjusted turnbuckles one full turn (loosened lower turnbuckle and tightened upper turnbuckle). Cushion is now such that the stabilator hits stops in each direction before the stick does. Repeated step 6 to readjust cable tension. Ended up with 40 pounds on upper turnbuckle and about 37 pounds on lower turnbuckle. Still plenty of cushion when stick moved forward but not as much cushion when pulled full back. Did verify that the stabilator hits the stops just barely before the stick when pulling back. (step 7)

Had to realign the grooves in the cable ends with the notches in the turnbuckles. Rechecked and verified cable tensions and stop cushions before proceeding. Installed lock clips to secure cable ends to turnbuckles.
