Brief Description: ELT GPS Data Wire Good (N 14-09-10)
The ELT aircraft plug was recently wired so decided to do this Notification.
For the record, pins on the ELT aircraft plug are identified as follows (reference photo): Pin 1 - bottom right - aircraft power Pin 2 - upper right - test wire Pin 3 - upper left - ground (via GPS cable shield) Pin 4 - lower left - GPS data ("RS 232 Data In")
Checked for continuity between ELT aircraft plug pin 4 and aircraft ground. No continuity was present indicating that the AV-5000A control module is OK (no internal short). Also checked for continuity between ELT aircraft plug pins 3 and 4. No continuity was present indicating that the GPS data line is not shorted to the cable shield. (step 1)
Steps 2 through 11 are NA since continuity checks were good and no wiring modifications are required.
Step 12 verifies the correct operation of the GPS data via the ELT manual. This still needs to be done as part of finishing the ELT installation (reference page 42F-04, step 5). For purposes of this Notification, considering this step to be complete.
