Brief Description:  Installed Nose Gear Wheel & Tire Assy

Original plan was to install main gear wheel and tire assemblies but realized that I had the wrong grease. Ordered Aeroshell #5 for nose gear and assumed that it was the same for the main gear. The Matco technical bulletin calls out Aeroshell #22 so ordered from Aircraft Spruce.

Not sure I wanted to have weight of nose fork and nose wheel/tire assembly hanging by bottom bolts of nose gear assembly. Routed 0.041-inch safety wire through nose gear assembly and lower engine mount holes and tightened to provide some level of support.

Separated U-1210C anti-rotation plates and deburred. (page 35-05, step 5).

Machine countersunk outboard sides of nose fork. Tapped 5/16-24 threads in holes of nose fork. Cleaned up anti-rotation plates and nose fork, scuffed with Scotch-Brite pads, cleaned with Acetone, and primed. Riveted anti-rotation plates to nose fork and installed stop screws and washers. Greased nose fork bushings with Aeroshell #5 and installed on nose gear assembly. Installed cupped washers, flat washer, and nut. Tightened nut until pull force on nose fork was 24 lbs. Many builders say that 26 lbs is too much but didn't want to substantially deviate too far from the plans so compromised at 24 lbs. Drilled holes and installed cotter pin. Installed nose gear wheel and tire assembly on nose fork using axles, bolt, and nut. Tightened nut until slight drag was felt, then backed off nut 1/4 turn.
