Brief Description: Trial Fit Wings & Installed Flaperons
Set up build table with bubble wrap outside and moved fuselage onto table. Denise helped install the left wing but there was interference in the spar cutout in the side skin. Removed wing and removed about 1/16 inch from aft side and bottom of cutout. Reinstalled wing and installed spar under retainer block. (page 30-02, steps 6 through 8).
Completely pushed wing inboard with stub spars entering receptacles without any problem. In retrospect, replacing the center section after misdrilling was the right thing to do. The concern was that the stub spars would not line up correctly with the spar receptacles. While wiggling left spar pin, tapped with a rubber mallet and pin went in. Installed right spar pin. Supported wing with a sawhorse and a garden tote - not the best solution but kept the wing supported. Neighbor Willie stopped by and helped install the right wing. Again, had to remove a bit of material on the forward side of the spar cutout (1/32 inch) and also had to remove a bit from the bottom of the F-1204H-L bulkhead cap. Reinstalled wing and slide into place. Drove home both spar pins - very tight which I guess is good. Had a nice uniform 1/8" gap between the wing skin and fuselage. Removed both wings and stored them back in the wing rack but first removed a nut that fell inside the wing while temporarily installing flaperons to the wings for storage last year. (page 30-03, steps 1 through 5). Page 30-03 is complete.
Removed wings and placed them back into the storage rack. Installed flaperons and secured with called out hardware. Was able to get the inboard hardware on both wings to rotate with the flaperon meaning the joint was rotating around the bearing. The other four connections (two on each wing) were properly torqued so flaperon bracket is tight against the rod bearing so bearing rotates when the flaperon is moved. (page 30-04, steps 1 through 3). Page 30-04 is complete.
