Brief Description:  Rudder Complete

Decided to complete rudder while waiting for V stab tip rib to arrive from Van's. Figured that trial fit of the rudder spar to the V stab rear spar will be fine even though V stab skin is not installed.
1. Installed upper V stab rudder hinge to V stab spar (page 06-07, step 5). Initially installed bolts with no lubricant and exceeded the 20-25 inch-pound torque for AN3 bolt. Removed bolts and lubricated with light oil and reinstalled. Was able to torque properly to 25 inch-pounds.
2. Clecoed rudder spar caps, hinge brackets, and rudder horn to rudder spar (page 07-02, step 10). This completes page 07-02.
3. Temporarily installed lower rudder hinge and trial fit rudder spar assembly to V stab rear spar. Happy with the fit. Used AN960-10 washers between hinge and each hinge bracket for both the upper and lower rudder hinges. Removed lower rudder hinge, bagged rudder hinge hardware, and stored lower hinge and hardware for later use (page 07-03, step 1).
Riveted rudder spar caps, rudder brackets, and main rib (page 07-03, steps 2 and 3). This complete page 07-03.
4. Riveted trimmed rib to rudder horn, After riveting, realized that rivets probably should have been installed with rivet heads up. Decided to press on as is. Also attached rudder spar to rudder horn (rivets installed with head properly pointing forward). Finally, riveted remaining 3 main ribs to rudder spar completing rudder skeleton assembly (page 07-04, steps 1 through 3). This completes page 07-04.
5. Installed and riveted rudder main skin over rudder skeleton assembly (page 07-05, steps 1 through 4). This completes page 07-05.
