Brief Description:  Flight 66

1.1 flight time, 11 patterns. Earliest flight yet, wheels up 0530. Started with a short cruise down to the ultralight field and back, then a bunch of patterns. Did no flaps, flaps 10, flaps 20 (the usual), and the first full flaps (flaps30). No flaps floated long in ground effect, as expected. Flaps 10, I had trouble controlling the actual touchdown point, some bouncing, so I didn't try that one again. Flaps 30 - was the first time I've tried with the "full" setting on the per-print flaps detent. I added a flaps 20 detent between the to-print flaps 10 and flaps 30, and have found that flaps 20 is pretty nice for landing. Flaps 30 is very hard to pull - hard to pull the lever back into the detent. Gave a very steep descent, almost like flaps 20 with a forwards slip. Also did some forwards slip altitude corrections on several of these landings. Did some accel in ground effect then pull up takeoffs. DALT 4000', 94F at pattern altitude. Nobody else in the pattern, but I saw crop dusters going in and out of their strip (just NW of the airport), and there was some kind of ag observer plane that crossed through the pattern behind me one of the times around, and we came face to face when I was on base leg one time around (he moved out of the way). After shut down, fuel level indicated 4 gallons. It indicates more in flight - about 7 gal, so I think there's something optimistic about the in flight markings. After flight pulled cowl in preparation for swapping out the oil cooler. 35.2 total time.
