Very quickly wasted the remade base plate by drilling holes in the wrong place. Decided another way to fix it is to remake the small angle brackets. Remade these, put the clamps in place, drilled through the first base plate. Everything seemed to be working out, then getting the rivets in the base plate was a pain - one bolt is too close to the rivet tail to install the rivet, so had to remove the bolt. But by then, the rivet on the other side constrained the head of the bolt from moving, so had to file that rivet down, slide the bolt back, install the rivet. Then it constrained wrenching the nut back onto that screw, but I got it done in very small increments. And one rivet didn't sit flat, so I drilled it out and reinstalled, and it still didn't sit flat, but was closer. Good enough. Now need to add the epoxy between the two tubes and epoxy the rivet into the static tube and file it down. Too much work for not enough product here, but I can say I made it all myself.
