Brief Description:  Cooling tins, misc.

Had some visitors at the hangar today to see the plane. Since it's down for the oil cooler, I decided to pull the cooling tins on the cylinders to check the plugs and to try out the specialized spark plug wrench (by Motion Pro - got it at Cycle Gear - designed for the 18mm hex plugs that the Jab uses). The plug wrench is sweet - reduced OD for an 18mm socket so they fit in the heads much nicer than the 18mm socket I used to install the CHT's. The plugs look very nice - dry and light brown. Removing the tins consists of removing 12 valve cover bolts and threading the plug wires back out through the grommet hole. There's got to be a better way. I've heard of people making various combinations of nutplates and such to make the Sonex tins removeable, and I had one visitor suggest hinges, since Sonex uses them to attach so many other things. Anyway, I brought home the right tin to consider a hinge setup, and some kind of door for the plug wires. The left tin has the oil pressure wire riveted to it, which I need to find a way to make removeable.
