Adjusted mixture 1 turn more rich. Changed the oil filter to a new Fram unit to try and stop the leak at the spacer ring. Found some of the thread sealant at the oil filter contact surface - that may have been the problem. Rolled it out and ran the engine. No leak around the filter, now there may be a little weeping from the swivel elbow in the hose. Found a non-swivel elbow to replace that with online, and with a new hose and straight end, that's about $50. During the run, it throttled up more smoothly, and I could see the mixture pull the temperature up and then down through its travel - so finally it's rich of peak and finding where peak is.
