Brief Description:  H-stab installation

Got away from the canopy business for now. Started installing the h-stab. This is a lot of: put it in place, mark where it's touching the side skins, remove, trim the side skins, put it in place. After some iterations of that to get it far enough forwards (also had to trim the aft edge of the turtledeck skins), then worked on how to grind on the elevators weldment to get enough up travel. This is another area where the radius inside the angle stock is larger then they show on the print - the upper aft corner of the elevator up stop interferes with the angle stock. So I filed a little on the angle stock, and used a cutoff wheel to take slices off the elevator up stop until it was hitting nice and flat against the vertical part forward of the vertical tail spar. Got the 25 degrees up. Down travel is limited by the down stop on the weldment hitting the aft spar of the h-stab - no adjustment needed there (down travel is not defined in the print). About the last thing I did was trim the h-stab bottom skins where they pass under the aft spar - after trimming them forwards of that point, there was about 1/8" per side that needed to come off over the spar - how to trim this without bending the skin or marking the spar? I slipped a scrap of .032 between the skin and the spar, and used a cutoff wheel in the dremel. Worked perfect. No marks on the spar at all.
