Finally got this h-stab together. Started by riveting in the new root rib. I have added a doubler plate at the aft end to be sure the root rib stays in place, plus added 2 rivets to the hole pattern. Even this 2nd root rib got the aft spar bracket attach holes a little ovalized. I figured I probably would make things worse trying to make yet another root rib, so just added fasteners and a doubler plate. The ovaling is fore-aft. The shear load on the part is up/down. So the rivets will still be transferring load (the part won't shift in the load direction). I scuffed the root rib, cleaned it with alcohol, took it outside and shot on a little zinc chromate. Then I riveted on the tip ribs. Then put the skin on one side, the fiberglass tip in place, and riveted it on both sides, except for the hinge. Then I got the other side riveted. I hung the hinge on the elevators, clecoed the elevator hinge to the stabilizer, and hung it on the wall. Still need to drill the elevator root ribs to final size and rivet, cut the hinge pin to length, install and rivet it on, but this is close enough. I'm a little disappointed that the fiberglass tips have the slightest bit of cracking on the lower surface at the corner near the elevator hinge. I'll stop drill that and fill it when painting - the cracks appear to be in the gel coat only, not all the way through.
