Brief Description:  rebuilt F-12

F-12 was not square to the fuselage and required a shim to put fin parallel to cl of fuselage. During fit up and inspection of fin to fuselage it was apparent the bolt holes in F-12 would pitch the fin off plumb to the port side. Enough fiddling with F-12 to work around a poor assembly.

removed 3/4" angles from back of F-12. removed rivets from bottom skin on both sides of F-12. trimmed stbd longeron so F-12 would sit square. Cut new 3/4" angles to fit on back side of F-12. Match drilled existing rivet holes in F-12 to new angles. Cut an 0.040" plate to cover overr existing face of F-12. Riveted angles and new face to remainder of F-12 and re-riveted F-12 to skin.

Fin now sits parallel to fuselage without a shim. Set fin in place and drilled (one) bolt hole from fin spar into F-12 and angles. Remainder of bolt holes will be drilled after plane is on its gear and fin can be verified plumb to the fuselage.

Revised tail wheel support at F-12 to be tail tie down support. I will modify skeg design from tri-gear plans and add the skeg in front of the eyebolt later.
