Brief Description: Fitting and triming elevator installation
Worked on fitting both elevators together. This involved first fitting the left elevator (similar to yesterday's effort) then working the instlallation of the bellcrank and drilling holes between the two elevators. To do this, I first aligned the elevator tips to ensure that both elevators would be in the neutral position together. Then I clamped the bellcrank and weldments together as shown in photo 1. By the way, I was relieved to see that the weldments were fitting flatly against each other. I had worried that any misallignment in their manufacture, or their installation on the elevator spars could result in gaps....but in this case, they fit fairly flush. Next I drilled from the pilot hole in one of the weldments back through the bellcrank and opposite weldment. Photo 3 shows a look across the root ribs when the tip ribs are in the neutral position. This was another "feel good" check that the elevators were built without twist since the roots align when the tips align. So far so good....worry reducing....
