Brief Description:  First Rivets

This afternoon I finally set my first rivets. Most others will have to wait until I prime, but this part is simply a doubler plate, so I felt comfortable continuing with riveting this. Of course, I already messed up a rivet. After reading some more, I realized I wasn't applying enough pressure to the rivet gun, which caused it to drift and strike into the rivet making semi-circles in the bulged head, or a "smiley".

Without a drill press to get a perfect center, I knew I'd enlarge the hole. I went ahead anyways, rounded out the hole, used clamps and my bandsaw to cut a larger, longer rivet to size, and set the rivet. It's all structurally sound according to the two books I have in shop, so that makes me happy!!

The scuffing is intentional, smoothing the surface. The entirety of these parts will eventually be scuffed for priming later, so no matter there.
