Brief Description:  Bonding Trailing Edge

Today I bonded the trailing edge. It's a thin strip of metal with a triangular cross section, to stiffen the trailing edge and guard against deformation.

Bonding is relatively easy. I cleaned the strip and the skin's trailing edge with acetone. Then I placed bonding material along the skin. The material used to be RTV or another type of tank sealant, but Van's has since allowed use of "bonding tape"

It's a double-sided roll of tape. Just lay one end down on the surface, then peel away the paper to leave the strip of sticky bonding material behind. So I placed the tape on the skin, then cleco'd the trailing edge stiffener to the skin.

It only takes 15 minutes to bond. But today I'm headed out, so it'll be there for much longer.

The next step is to join this right skin to the left skin.
