Brief Description:  Rebuilt Spray Booth

So today I worked on rebuilding my paint booth with PVC pipes. I considered stapling the plastic to the roof or nailing a wood block through the top to re-secure it.

Ultimately, I decided on a sturdier frame. I didn't want to spend too much time with wood again, so I opted for PVC pipes. This Saturday morning, I sketched out a design with 33" sections, then took Kayla to Lowe's. The store only had 2', 5' and 10' sections available. 33" obviously wouldn't be a very efficeint use of 5' secions. So....

I went to a Lowe's employee, asked for a sheet of paper, went back to the aisle with the pipes, plopped on the floor, and sketched out a new design. Kayla thinks it's ridiculous, I think it's awesome that I engineered on the floor of a store.

For the floor I used T-junctions for the side-side joints to connect to the vertical lengths. The top portion needed a 4-way T-junction. Lowe's didn't have those, so I had to make two-adjacent T-junctions. The third picture shows this.

The first picture shows the process where I matched the trip-proof bottom to the top. It didn't match due to the offset from the doubled T-junctions. I marked and cut with my bandsaw the horizontal sections to match vertically. Once the top and bottoms matched, I removed the pieces, cut the 10' pipes to 8', and installed them.

The final product is a 8' tall paint booth, 11' wide, and 5' deep. the sections are 24", 33", and another three 24" sections. I'm making the 33" section on the left (second image) my door. Later that evening I covered the top in plastic and wrapped the sides (minus the door) in plastic drop cloth. Last things to do is put in the door and floor, and re-arrange the shop for easier access to the door.
