Brief Description:  Wheel pants

The aft and fwd wheel pants need to be aligned with each other and the excess edge material sanded away to minimize the gap between the two. Then the aft pants are positioned onto the tire/wheel using the axle as the forward extent of the aft pants. The black line on the top of the pants is aligned with the center of the tire. The tire has a nose in alignment. Once the fwd pants are attached then it is necessary to align the pants with the aircraft center line. I dropped a plumb bob aft and fwd, chalk lined between the points and then made sure the aft and fwd ends of the pants were the same distance from the center line. Also the center point of the aft and fwd point on the pants needs to be the same distance from the floor. Before all this began, it is necessary to raise the plane on jacks to free movement of the wheels. Then you need to level the plane fwd to aft and side to side at the door sill. After the pants are in position, I then drilled holes into the main wheel fairing bracket which will attach the pants to the bracket. I then applied two layers of fiberglas cloth over the holes on the inside of the pants to strenghthen that site.
