Brief Description:  Pitot static check

I performed the pitot static check and noted problems with both. The pitot tube was not securely attached to the pitot or AOA lines that run to the panel. I used SafeAIr connectors and had Brent Bowman flare the ends of the pitot tubes. Once these connections were secure I had excellent response of the airspeed to slight pressures applied to the pitot tube. It is necessary to tape over the water drain on the pitot tube to perform the test. The Van's plans for connecting the static lines in the fuselage was always suspect. The static check revealed a leak at the site of the pull rivets used for the static ports and the lines connected with RTV sealant. Therefore I purchased the Cleaveland static port system. I crawled into the back of the empennage and removed the previously installed system. I drilled 1/2" holes to accommodate the Cleaveland system. Once those ports were secured with RTV I connected the fittings and tubing between all. I tested the static lines and had an excellent response on the instruments that held altitude for greater than one minute.
