There needs to be an alternate source of air to the carb in the event the cowl inlet freezes or a bird gets stuck inside. I followed the plans and the installation was easy. I wish I would have installed the door further fwd. It would make it easier to attach the cable to open the door. When I first fashioned the cowl extension to the FAB the extension was higher than the FAB portion. Therefore I needed to add further layers of cloth to the upper extension of the cowl. I needed to grind away a portion of the lower cowl extension and place new cloth. After this was completed the cowl extension fit nicely to the FAB. After chipping away the foam form, I placed one layer of BID in the fillet to secure the extension to the cowl.
