Finished the cowl fitting today shaving off more where the upper and lower cowl meet at the two sides. Placed a single layer of cloth along the aft edge of the L upper cowl where it joins the firewall. My plan is to then place flox/epoxy under this with the cloth adding some rigidity. This should help to fill the space between the cowl and the firewall. Also added some layers of cloth to the fwd upper L cowl so that it will better match the adjacent lower cowl. I will then fair out this with epoxy/flox to have a match fit between the two surfaces. Added nutplates to the lower piece of 0.063 aluminum that will accept screws from the cowl to hold that portion to the firewall.
