Brief Description:  Cabin overhead console

I finished fiberglassing the console to the cabin top. Smoothed in the edges. Where the mid and forward sections curve to embrace the door openings, it is necessary to smooth the fiberglas with additional layers of flox and fiberglas. Then I finish sanded the entire surface with 150 grit paper and cleaned up the area with acetone. The access panels needed nutplates around the perimeter so the access panel can be removed and reinstalled. It would have been much easier to install those nutplates before I attached the console to the cabin top. I needed to use the no hole yoke to fit in the tight space and squeeze the rivets. The corners were even more difficult because the inner surface is rounded. I could not use a clecoe to hold one edge of the nutplate, but had to hold it in place with gorilla tape. AFter one side was clecoed, I removed the tape and clecoed the other side. I then used a NAPA product to place on primer and then a finish coat. Battleship gray. The same color I used on the inside panel covers. Now I can install this on the fuselage.
