I began to assemble the door latch mechanism. I purchased from Plane Around the 180 latch to use rather than the Van's 90 latch. It supplies more force to close the door and then to latch the door. Unfortunately the C-RACK supplied by Van's according to Van's plans is cut roughly into thirds and the directions from Plane Around require the C-RACK to be cut in half. I made the cut into thirds and now have re ordered this piece from Van's to the tune of $180. Really the first appreciable error I have made in the build. The Plane Around plans call for creation of a gear box slot 18 3/8 inches from the inside front of the door. The photo captures this slot. It is re inforced laterally with blocks epozied in between the inner and outer skins of the door. The inner door handle calls for a nutplate on the inside of the handle. Quite an acrobatic trick but I accomplished this using a grasping tool to hold the nutplate up to the holes as I found the rivet holes with a clecoe.
