"It's been a little hit & miss this week with working on the plane. A few rivets here... a few rivets there. The Left wing skeleton is complete & started fitting the inboard bottom skin. For riveting the skeleton the weapon of choice was a 7 inch straight AN470 - 4 rivet set with a snap soc from Avery Tools. These things are AWESOME! When I first started riveting the skeleton, I forgot that I had the snap socs on hand specifically for this job & I was getting a little chafing on the manufactured head from the rivetset. It almost looked like I was getting really minor ""smilies"" but it was just where the rivet set was rubing throught the alodine coating. Popped on a snap soc & every remaining rivet head looked perfect!! Highly recommended! I also, prepped a few ribs for the right wing. Also, I used alot of half size rivets. The 4-5 rivets were too long for my liking & 4-4s were too short. 4-4.5s were perfect.
My process was as follows: - Rivet all ribs to main spar with the exception of the two inboard ribs (leave those till last) & without rear spar in place. this allows full access to the ribs with a long straight set. - Rivet the rear spar in place with squeezer. - Then fully rivet the inboard ribs one at a time.
This is actually a super quick process... If you dont accidently put rivets in holes that are to remain open for later assembly. DUH! I have the holes marked & I still had to remove 2 rivets."
