Brief Description:  Emp Fiberglass work

"I have been working on the plane this week!!! Although, my work has slowed to a crawl partially because my wing kit won't be here till early September and partially because this fiberglass work has alot of wait time (cure time). I need to invest in some ""Fast"" epoxy hardener, even then I'll have a 6 hour cure time...

- Throughout the tweek, I layed up an additional 3 plys of reinforcement to the tip closures. The plans call for only two, but I went ahead and added an additional ply.

- Trimmed and refitted the closures. Awesome fit when I was done! When initailly fitting the fiberglass, be sure to use a heat gun to form the the parts for a better fit. (Heat up the tips & contour to your liking).

- Filled the tip ticlosures with Micro / Epoxy. Also, filled a a couple voids I found between the glass and gel coat... Thank god I was using a heat gun during the fitting process & found these now!!! I'd hate to be finding these after paint and ruin a $$$$$ paint job!

- Sanded the the mirco down for a nice contoured / convex shaped closure.

-Drilled the HS tips to the HS, countersank & dimpled for CS4-4 blind rivets.

A little expaination before going on to the next couple tasks. I wanted seamless tips, meaning that once finished, you will NEVER be able to tell that HS, Elevator, rudder and the corresponding fiberglass tips are seporate pieces. After much research and question asking, I figured out my biggest concern here would be permenantly bonding two completely different materials (aluminum & fiberglass). Without a super strong bond here, cracks in the filler will eventually occur due to the different expansion & contraction rates of the two materials. To prevent such cracks, I need to create the stongest bond possible here. Ahhh, the solution, HYSOL 9324 structural glue. It's not cheap by any means but It will create a perm bond between the materials that I want and need for seamless tips. I'm not going for the complete composite look on my plane but on the emp tips only, I think it's a really ni
