"After much deliberation, I finally got around to buttoning up the trim tab... A while back (months ago) I bent the tip closure ""fold over tabs"" on the left elevator & the trim tab it's self. I was not exactly super happy with appearence of the bends nor the alignment between the trim tab & the elevator. So I bought an extra trim-tab skin and cut off the stupid ""fold tabs"". I have to live with the fold on the elevator. No way in heck am I going to replace that thing!!! One evening a while back, Bill was over helping me fit the elevators & we made the elevator folds a bit more ""crisp"".
- Rather than ""folding"" the ends of the trim tab, I fabricated ribs to replace the folded ends.
- Clamped everthing together, match drilled the hinge to the elevator & trim tab, deburrred and etch primed the hinge & extra ribs.
-Riveted everything together. Trim Tab Done!
I'm very happy with the way this turned out. The mating ends came out with a consistant 3/32"" gap and aligns with the trailing edge perfectly.
I guess this one should go in plan deviations category."
