Brief Description:  More Rudder Final Assembly Continues

Yep, the rudder continues on and on... Definately don't think this is a quick section!!! First off, I had to rattle can prime the counterweight skin over-lap. Duh, forgot about that one and wasn't about to break out the AKZO & spray gun for just a small section. So I marked the overlap area, scotch-brited it , cleaned it with acetone, masked it and hit it with some self-etching primer. It took about a whole 5 minute to do that. Then moved on to riveting the counterweight skin to the counterweight rib which was already riveted to the main spar. I was worried about riveting this because it was difficult to get to with my big ol' dumb hands, awkward to hold, pretty flexable but the counterweight skin is super stiff and difficult to flex around the rib. Luckly, I clecoed this together the other day and it seemed to take some of the "spring" out of the skin. Any who, Kim helped me hold the piece for the first couple rivets & then dissapeared in to watch american idol or something. I finished riveting the counterbalance skin to the rib and mounted the counterweight. at first the lead weight doesn't clear the most forward side rivets.... HINT: The pure lead weight is super malleable and is easily shaped with gently tapping it with a 1.5" flush set. The mod I mentioned earlier is yet to come when I get the fiberglass stuff out. I may also add some saftey wire here. You'll see. Torqued the nuts to 24 inch pounds, clecoed on the right skin and called it a night.
