Brief Description:  Fuel Tank Decisions

"I did a lot of research & had some in depth conversations with highly respected people to help me decide on my course of action concerning the fuel tank set up and products to use. Although some may not agree with my decisions due to cost etc., personally, I wanted to use the ""best"" / highest grade materials availble!!! Once these suckers are sealed up, I dont want any leaks! Typical MIL-Spec is Mil-Spec & I agree with that for the most part... But when a product ""brand"" has been in use with company's like Boeing & Lockheed for 30+ years, I tend to believe in the quality of that product / brand a bit more then newer brands selling the ""same"" Mill-Spec product for about 1/4 the price. With that said, I decided to use the real Pro-Seal product made by PPG- PRC Desoto (P/S 890 B-2). As far as options go, I will be using electonic fuel level capacitive sender plates (no moving parts). the right tank will have a flop tube fuel pick up for inverted flight. The left tank with have a standard (fixed) fuel pick up.

The record out there tells us that most fuel leaks occur around the access panels, namely around the nut-plates / screw theads that secure the acess panel to the tank(s). To circumvent this issue to the best of my ability, I went ahead and spent the cash for NAS1473 domed / sealed plate-nuts. These bad-boys are not cheap, they run about $5 bucks a pop. EEK!

Time to get rolling on the tanks... The Pro-Seal expires in May. :-)"
