Brief Description:  Hung the motor!

Well this went very quickly. I was dreading it, but it really was alot easier than I expected.

It took me an hour and a half to hang the motor by myself--not all day, like I feared. I used a 2-ton hoist (I bought at Harbor Freight) to hold the motor while I inserted the mounting bolts. The dynafocal mount has all of the bolts pointing as though they were the bottom corners of a pyramid with the apex being somewhere around the front cylinders. That may not make much sense, but the result is that the bolts are a pain to get in since they aren't aligned until everything is tightened down.

What I did was install the bottom two bolts and the isolation mounts while the hoist carried the load of the motor. I tightened them down pretty good, but not all the way. Then I let the motor droop onto the rubber isolation mounts enough to allow me to install the upper isolation mounts. I pushed the bolts in as far as I could by hand and then hoisted the motor up until the nose gear came off the ground. Then installing the top bolts wasn't so bad. Thanks a bunch (again) to Van's tech support for sharing this trick with me.

After I called back to discuss the install, the fellow at Van's asked: "Did you remember to install the oil pressure line elbow behind the right upper motor mount? It can't be installed after you hang the motor." Ugh. Turns out he did the same thing (and several others at Van's have done it too), so I didn't feel like a total dunce. I'll fix that next time.
