Brief Description:  Elevator Horns Drilled

Got the elevator horns lined up and drilled. This involved aligning the elevator counterbalances to the horizontal stabilizer and then fastening the control horns together so that they could be drilled in alignment.

Spent most of my time digging around the hangar for something that would fit snugly between the horns so that I could use it as a drill guide. If the holes don't line up pretty much perfectly, they'll misalign when torqued and cause the elevators to be misaligned. (Think left elevator up and right elevator down--not so good).

Anyway, pic1 is my little drilling jig. I sacrificed a part I will need later for the canopy and made a maple block for filler. Drilled it on the press. It was a pretty easy task and it was very cool to move the elevators as a unit. Drilled through in Pic2 and the bolt in with the bearing in Pic3. Didn't take a pic of the bearing and the washers--not much to see anyway.
