Brief Description:  Preparing LH rear wing spar

I'm awaiting some tools (including a new band saw blade, a set of imperial drill bits - I need a 3/16" so might as well buy a variety now - and a die grinder for easier access deburring with a small Scotchbrite wheel) so have put a short hold on completing the tie down brackets.

So the next job is to build the rear spars. I'm starting with the left hand one, sine that's the orientation shown on the plans so will be easiest (i.e. least likely to get wrong!) one to do first.

As usual, the first step is to remove the plastic protective wrap and debur the parts. Then there are reinforcing plates to offer up to the aft spar, onto which will eventually be attached the brackets from which the ailerons and flaps will hang.

Two key items of note here are that:
(1) The centre plate needs to be measured so that it's outboard edge is exactly 50-3/4 inches from the outboard edge of the spar - so a two foot rule comes in very handy for accuracy here.

(2) The inboard plates need to be trimmed, since the parts are common to the RV-7 and the (thinner fuselage) RV-8. The trim dimensions are not straightforward, and so I'll leave marking thos up until next time.
