Brief Description: Countersinking RH elevator spar
Just a quick bit of effort today; continuing to prep elevator parts and finishging off by countersinking the elevator spar where it attaches to the inboard rib, so that the flat head rivets will fit snugly under the elevator horn when it is fitted.
Unfortunately the countersink bit chattered on the final hole, elongating it. Lucky, then, that at the LAA Rally last weekend I bought a set of "Oops" rivets. The clue's in the name - they're to correct those little faffs that we all make now and then. ;-)
In this case, what I'll do is drill out the offending hole from its original 3/32" size to a larger 1/8", and use a 1/8" (-4) rivet which has a head equivalent to that of a -3 rivet. What a good idea. :-)
