Brief Description: More LH rear spar and making a start on ribs
Just a couple of hours today, mainly preparing and match drilling the rear spar strengthening doublers, including dimpling the outer and middle doublers and the spar web where they sit.
I also took the opportunity to drill the 3/16" locating holes in the two tie down brackets; the other 7 3/16 holes per bracket, plus 8 holes per bracket for the rivets that attach the spacer bars and nutplates for the aileron bracket bolts (that will eventually sit on the other side of the spar) will be done next time.
An hour or so was spent with a Scotchbrite drum in the collet of the new die grinder, smoothing off the sharp edges in 10 of the 13 main ribs for the left wing. I decided to stop because the painfully high-pitched screeching noise it produces is probably not good for the neighbours at 22:30 on a Sunday night!
The job certainly gives the Scotchbrite drum a bashing - on the grinder in the pic below is a drum that has completed 14 ribs; next to it is a pristine new one.
