The plans make it clear that aligning the trailing edges of elevator and trim tab is more critical than aligning the inboard edges, so I began by setting up a reference edge (metre rule) on the levator skin. Then, instead of takin the cahance of ruining the piano hnge at this stage, I fabricated a strip of aluminium of the same dimensions as the hinge and used that as a template whilst aligning the tab.
Some careful to-ing and fro-ing later, with a 3/32 drill bit taped to the inboard face of the elevator cutout to ensure the appropriate gap is maintained, and I have the ciorrect dimensions transferred to teh template.
Once I had that, it was a simple job to match drill the hinge from the template and install the hinge itself onto trim tab and elevator.
