Brief Description:  Began priming LH elevator. Maybe...

Having rechecked that all deburring was compete for the LH elevator parts, it was time for the dreaded priming.

I dug out the safety gear (it's nasty stuff, you'll remember, so a full face air-fed mask is the order of the day), the spray painting kit, 2 part epoxide primer and set up.

After a good rub down and degrease (with acetone) of each part, I laid them out in the spray shed, ran some thinners through the gun to make sure it hadn't picked up any nastys during its time off, and went back into the garage to mix the paint.

What's this? Much gunge in the bottom of the base primer tin. Hmm. OK, we'll give it a go anyway.

So, a careful 10 minute set up, mix the primer and activator with some thinners, load the gun cup and away we go.

Total waste of time. The base primer gunge in the bottom of the can is simply colouring the thinners on top, and there's no way the primer itself is usable. Check the expiry date on the can, and... oops. Expiry: 11 May 2011

That's more than frustrating - I was psychologically ready to stand up to my priming demons ;-) but even worse than that: Replacement Primer is NINETY QUID for five litres. And if that's not enough, replacement activator (also life-ex in 2011) is EIGHTY QUID for 2.5 litres!

Aaaargh - teach me to have a lay-off.

So I'll dig deep, and order more tomorrow.
