Brief Description:  RH elevator counterweight

The elevator counterwight needs firstly to be marked up for removal of part of the lead, because the weights for RH and LH are supplied as identical parts but the RH elevator is lighter overall since it does not have the trim tab and associated gubbins.

Once this has been done, and with the outer ribs of the elevator cleco'd together with the counterwight skin, the attachment holes in weght and ribs could be drilled out using pre-punched holes in the skin as a guide. This took time and patience, and I began with a #40 pilot hole before enlarging to #12. The most difficult part of this was to ensure that the soft lead didn't cause the drill bit to jam too much, so a reversible slow battery drill was used and the task finished off with the air drill. Much liquid Boelube was used throughout.

Finally, the lead weight had the holes countersunk to accept the dimpled screw heads that will eventually be used to fasten it in place.
