Brief Description:  RH Elevator - drill skin to skeleton

With the skeleton cleco'd together, it is now time to attache the skin and then match drill all the skin to skeleton holes.

This was again fairly simple, except towards the trailing edges where a drill stop is essential to ensure that you don't drill right through the skin on the other side!

Also, some of the aftermost holes are only pre-punched in the skin, which is used as a guide to drill through the ribs. This is because the trailing edge of the skin is bent in a bendimng brake to ensure a clean trailing edge - prior to that it stands proud from the ribs.

Actually, typing this has got me nervous! The plans call for the TE to be bent prior to the drilling of the skin to the skeleton, which I didn't do. (Mainly because I was waiting to do a single priming session of all components, which meant that I was not yet ready to rivet the stiffeners to the skin (which is necessary prior to bending the TE in order to give the skin the necessary rigidity).

Uh-oh.

I *think* it should be OK, because I clamped the skin to the rib before drilling the hole, which is where I think it should end up after bending, but the proof of this will be seen in due course.

In the second picture accompanying this log entry you can see how the skin requires bending properly before it sits cleanly on understructure.
