Brief Description:  Apply adhesive to rudder trailing edge wedge

As part of the process for building a truly straight rudder trailing edge, the plans call for the rudder skins and wedge at this stage to be held togeter with adhesive prior to final riveting.

The plans suggest using either fuel tank sealant (e.g. ProSeal) or "good epoxy".

I have chosen to use Henkel/UniBond "Repair Extreme" power glue, which is water resistant, has a temperature range of -50degC to +120degC, and is specifically identified as being suitable for aluminium.

After applying a thin layer to bothe sides of the wedge, it is now cleco'd in place along with the temporary aluminium angle used to hold the TE straight when drilling out the rivet holes. I have used clecos in every hole in order to hold the TE togethre whilst the glue fully cures.

This will take 48 hours, so the trailing edge must not be released form the clecos until 20:15 on Tuesday 10 May at the earliest.

Then comes the final riveting of the rudder trailing edge, a process that from other build logs and the plans clearly will require some care and finesse. I am a little apprehensive about the next two final build stages for the rudder, since as well as the TE riveting there is also teh rolling of the leading edge - another process that is fiddly and serious if I get it wrong. The next few building sessions could be interesting...

Later: In hindsight, I wish I had been a little more generous with the adhesive, but even so it appears to have set well and it certainly held the parts together accurately and firmly for riveting.
