Brief Description:  VS forward spar to ribs - rivet error & solution

You'll remember my picture of the spoiled rivet hole in the VS lower ribs to spar assembly - repeated below as picture 2.

Well, I emailed Van's for advice, and rapidly received the following:

"I'd put a rivet in that hole, then add another rivet about 3/8 furhter inboard to
help share the load.

Vans"

Simple.

So, after borrowing a 1/8" screw clamp - to apply more pressure to the assembly than a spring-loaded cleco could provide - two rivets completed the skeleton. Because I'd already rivetted on half of the skin before identifying the problem, the rivet heads for these two rivets are now on the aft side of the assembly. Whilst that's somewhat against convention (rivet heads typically go either forward or up), it will do no harm. I'll confess my sins to Charlie, my inspector, tomorrow.
